Stockerau - Stourzh, Gerald (13/25)
Stoll, Joseph Ludwig Stollhof

Stoll, Maximilian

Stoll, Maximilian, b. Erzingen (Germany), Oct. 12, 1742, d. Vienna, May 23, 1788, physician; father of Joseph Ludwig Stoll. Originally a clergyman, from 1776 university professor and head of the ´Medizinische Klinik´ hospital in Vienna, personal physician to Prince W. A. Kaunitz und Baron E. G. von Laudon. Pioneer of the Vienna medical school, to whose international reputation he greatly contributed. His concept of illness, laid down in his work "Ratio medendi" (7 vols., 1788-1794) and determined by medical histories and results of post mortem examinations, formed the basis for the work of J. Skoda and Baron C. von Rokitansky.
