Lurnfeld, Kärnten, Beckenlandschaft


Lurnfeld Basin, Carinthia, about 5 km wide basin region where the River Möll flows into the River Drau/Drava, south of Sachsenburg to the mouth of the River Lieser. Name from the mediaeval county of Lurn (Teurnia), which comprised almost the entire area of Upper Carinthia and East Tirol. Old, well developed settlement area (Roman excavations in Teurnia). Significant difference between densely populated sunny side (north slope) and wooded shady side (south of the river Drau). On the northern slope, Hohenburg Castle ruin; main town: Spittal an der Drau.
