Adler, Guido, b. Ivančice, Czech Republic (then Eibenschitz), Nov. 1, 1855, d. Vienna, Feb. 15, 1941, musicologist; 1898-1927 professor of musicology in Vienna (successor to E. Hanslick), founder of the "Vienna School" of musicology, 1894-1938 general editor of the "Denkmäler der Tonkunst in Ö.". Teacher of E. Wellesz and A. Webern.


Works: Der Stil in der Musik, 1912; Handbuch der Musikgeschichte, 1924 (ed.); Wollen und Wirken, 1935 (autobiography).
