Vogl, Otto - Volksgarten (7/25)
Volders Völkerbundanleihe

Völkerbund

League of Nations, Société des Nations (German: Völkerbund), international organisation of 32 allied and 13 neutral states founded in 1920 with headquarters in Geneva which was dissolved in 1946 when the UNO was established as its successor. Between 1920 and 1937, another 21 states became members (Austria in 1920), but 20 had left the organisation by 1942 (Germany in 1933, Italy in 1937, and the USSR was expelled in 1940). The League of Nations did excellent work in the fields of humanitarian activities and sanitation but failed to preserve peace where the interests of the Big Powers were at stake (Japanese expansion to Manchuria in 1931, Italy's invasion of Abyssinia in 1935, dismantling of the ČSR in 1938/39).
