Graz (Styria), May 23, 1584, d. Vienna, June 8, 1650. Imperial Diplomat, Lord Steward to Empress Anna. Supported Ferdinand II and opposed M. Klesl. Took part in the alliance with Maximilian of Bavaria and the Catholic League in 1619 and negotiated with the Pope and Spain. In 1621 made peace with Bethlen Gábor, took part in the overthrow of A. von Wallenstein, negotiated the Peace of Prague in 1635 and was main delegate of the Emperor at the negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia in Münster 1640-1648.
