Neuhofen an der YbbsNeuhofen an der Ybbs, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Amstetten, alt. 319m, pop. 2,443, area 36.39 km2, in the foothills of the Alps to the south of Amstetten. Seat of the regional Lower Austrian agricultural administrative authorities, Kulturhof ("Ostarrîchi" documentary centre dedicated to Austrian history), recreation centre; wood processing, transport companies. - First documented mention under the name of "Niuuanhova" in the document of 996 which contains the oldest proof of the name "Ostarrîchi". Parish church (documented mention around 1000) built as a late-Gothic hall church 1460-1466; high-lying Baroque subsidiary church in Toberstetten. Literature: F.
