Muehl, Otto Muffat, Gottlieb

Muffat, Georg


Muffat, Georg, baptized Mégève (France), June 1, 1653, d. Passau (Germany), Feb. 23, 1704, composer and organist; father of Gottlieb Muffat. Trained in Paris, also in Vienna and Prague; 1678-1681 worked as an organist in Salzburg, then in the service of the bishop of Passau; introduced French and Italian styles to the baroque instrumental music tradition.


Works: For organ and instrumental music (Armonico tributo, 1682; Florilegium primum & secundum, 1695/1698; Apparatus musico-organisticus, 1690).
