Liechtenstein, Prince Joseph Wenzel, b. Prague (Czech Republic), Aug. 9, 1696, d. Vienna, Feb. 10, 1772, field marshal, fought against the Turks 1716-1718 and fought in the War of Polish Succession, 1735 envoy to Berlin and 1737-1740 in Paris.

In the Austrian War of Succession 1745 commander-in-chief in Italy (June 16, 1746 Victory at Piacenza). From 1744 as General Director of the entire Austrian artillery renewed the organisation of the artillery partly at his own cost, also financed the printing of the most important artillery handbooks. In 1760 fetched Isabella (1st wife of Joseph II.) from Parma and was Imperial commissioner when Joseph II was elected King in 1764.
