Kraków (Poland), Nov. 7, 1787, d. Bad Ischl (Upper Austria), Aug. 14, 1854, actor, director, theatre manager. 1827 leased the Theater an der Wien, which he managed until 1845, and signed a deed of partnership with the Josefstädter Theater. C. engaged W. Scholz and J. Nestroy for his company; 1838 purchased the Leopoldstädter Theater, which he opened under the new name of Carltheater. Famous for playing the popular figure "Staberl".
