Zbonek, EdwinZbonek, Edwin, b. Linz (Upper Austria), March 28, 1928, director of plays and films, theatre manager. Studied at the Reinhardt Seminar drama school in Vienna, worked as a director at different Austrian theatres (e.g. the Theater in der Josefstadt, the Burgtheater and the Volkstheater in Vienna, at the Tyrolean Landestheater, the Graz Opera House, the Festival at Mörbisch on Lake Neusiedl); influential film critic in the 1950s. First film in 1960 ("Am Galgen hängt die Liebe"), directed numerous TV productions (e.g. the series "Der alte Richter" with P. Hörbiger); for many years artistic director of the Theater der Jugend in Vienna and responsible for the plays performed there.
