VolksbankenVolksbanken, commercial credit co-operatives based on the Schulze-Delitzsch system (gewerbliche Genossenschaften) in existence in Austria since 1850. In 2000 the first level consisted of 68 institutes including the Österreichische Volksbanken-AG and Gewerbe-Finanzierungs-AG) with about 600 subsidiaries with a staff of 4,800. Balance sheet total in 1999: 310 bn ATS. The Allgemeine Bausparkasse (ABV), the Volksbanken-Consulting für Anlagenmanagement AG (VBC), the VB-Factoring Bank AG, the Immoconsult group, the Victoria Versicherung insurance company and the Landes-Hypothekenbank Niederösterreich also belong to the V. Group. On an international level, the V. Group is part of the Confédération Internationale des Banques Populaires.
