Voigtländer, Peter Wilhelm Friedrich von, b. Vienna, Nov. 17, 1812, d. Braunschweig (Germany), April 8, 1878, optician. 1837 took over the workshop for optical and precision-engineered instruments, founded by his grandfather Johann Christoph V. (1732-1797) and continued by his father Johann Friedrich V. (1779-1859). In collaboration with J. Petzval developed the first portrait lens in 1840. In 1868 moved the workshop to Braunschweig.
