TriestingTriesting, River, Lower Austria, 60 km long, southwestern tributary of the River Schwechat in the foothills of the northern Limestone Alps; it forms the southern boundary of the Vienna Woods. The River Triesting rises near Klammhöhe hill (618 m) to the northwest of Kaumberg, flows through a narrow wooded valley on its way to Hirtenberg (275 m), then turns to northwest into the Vienna Basin and flows into the Danube near Schwechat (163 m). At Hirtenberg the River Triesting has a mean flow rate of 2.5 m3/sec. Both a rail and a road route (from St. Pölten (271 m) to Leobersdorf (267 m)) go through the upper Triestingtal valley. Many industrial facilities: mechanical engineering, production of metal parts.
