SternwartenObservatories, (Astronomy): The observatory of the University of Vienna was founded in 1755, the present building was constructed 1874-1883 on the Türkenschanze (19th district). The Leopold Figl Observatory was built as a branch observatory on Schöpfl Mountain in 1969. Both are used for research in the fields of astrometry and astrophysics. The Vienna People´s Observatory (Wiener Volkssternwarte) was established by M. v. Kuffner in Vienna´s 16th district in 1886. The Urania Observatory, which also hosts a Planetarium, was founded in 1910. - Other observatories include: Observatory of the University of Graz (founded in 1875) with solar observatory on the Kanzelhöhe Mountain (founded 1943, municipality of Treffen, Carinthia), observatory of the University of Innsbruck (founded in 1904), J.-Kepler Observatory in Linz (founded in 1983), observatory at Kremsmünster (Mathematischer Turm), Eisner People´s Observatory at Gmunden (founded in 1949), Gahberg observatory in Weyregg (Upper Austria, founded in 1987), Klagenfurt People´s Observatory on the Kreuzberg Hill (founded in 1965), Burgenland Provincial Observatory at Eisenstadt (founded in 1979).
