Schlesinger, WilhelmSchlesinger, Wilhelm, b. Tinnye (Hungary), Feb. 5, 1839, d. Bad Vöslau (Lower Austria), June 19, 1896. Gynaecologist and writer. From 1864 University Professor of Gynaecology at the University of Vienna. Founder and editor of the "Wiener Medizin Blätter" (1878ff.). From 1887 ran the women´s hospital in Vienna´s 9th district which had been founded on his initiative. His criticism of deplorable scientific and social conditions prevented his further academic career. Works: Die Prostitution in Wien und Paris, 1868; Über Reflexbewegungen des Uterus, 1873.
