Pálffy zu Erdöd, Nikolaus VI. Graf


Pálffy of Erdöd, Count Nikolaus VI, b. March 1, 1667, d. Bratislava, Slovakia (then Pressburg), Feb. 20, 1732, Imperial Field Marshal. Participated in the liberation of Vienna in 1683 and in the Turkish Wars that followed; became Schlosshauptmann von Pressburg (Captain of Pressburg Castle) in 1694, Palatine of Hungary in 1713 and Field Marshal General in 1718. It is to his credit that Karl VI´s Pragmatic Sanction was accepted so quickly. Was made Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1711.
