Mitteleuropäische Zeit, MEZCentral European Time, CET: The local mean solar time of the longitude (0°) of Greenwich (prime meridian) serves as the reference for the time zones introduced in 1884. Central European Time, the mean solar time of the 15th meridian east of Greenwich, was introduced in Austria's railway and telegraph services in 1891 and, following a decision by the Municipal Council, in Vienna in 1910. It differs from Greenwich time by one hour. In 1980 Austria also introduced Daylight Saving Time (DST), the practice of uniformly advancing clocks by one hour during the summer months. DST begins on the last Sunday in March and ends on the last Sunday in September. Literature: I. Wanko, Die Einführung der Sommerzeit in Österreich - eine energiewirtschaftliche Betrachtung der Ausgangsvoraussetzungen und Auswirkungen, master's thesis, Vienna 1983.
