Mennel Manlius, Jakob© Copyright Jakob Mennel, miniature from the 16th century Mennel (Manlius) Jakob, b. Bregenz (Vorarlberg), around 1460, d. Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), before March 6, 1526, legal scholar, historian. Taught from 1493 in Freiburg, became town clerk there in 1496. From 1498 contacts with Maximilian I, became his court historiographer. Supported the theory that the Habsburgs were descended from the Trojans and were related to all Christian royal families.
