Hanover (Germany), June 10, 1903, d. Vienna, Nov. 10, 1978, actor, director, and author. Made his début 1921 in Hanover, from 1948 onwards at the Vienna Burgtheater (character actor, mostly in comedies: W. Shakespeare, G. Hauptmann, F. Schiller, G. B. Shaw and others). More than 200 roles, often with H. Moser (e.g. "Kleiner Mann - was nun?", 1933). Wrote film scripts and comedies ("So kann man sich täuschen", "Theophanes", etc.). Publication: Ich über mich, 1964.
