Vienna, Feb. 17, 1925, geographer. 1968-1970 professor in Kent State, Ohio and Ottawa; 1972-1995 professor at the University of Vienna, 1984-1988 chairwoman of the commission for research into regional planning, 1989-1992 executive director of the Institute of Town and Regional Research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Numerous publications on mountainous and urban regions and comparative cultural studies and on theories and methods of urban and regional research.
