Geneva (Switzerland), Jan. 21, 1918, consul general of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in Nice, one of the first to be interested in automobiles in Austria, son of Adolf Jellinek and brother of Max Hermann Jellinek. Advisor to Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (Untertürkheim, Germany), lasting influence on the production of new motor vehicles. He proposed the name "Mercedes" as the brand name of the Daimler cars (after his daughter Mercedes Jellinek, b. Sept. 16, 1889, d. Feb. 23, 1929). Literature: G.
