Gottlieb, JohannGottlieb, Johann, b. Brno, Czech Republic (then Brünn), Feb. 15, 1815, d. Graz (Styria), March 4, 1875, research chemist. From 1846 professor at the Joanneum in Graz. Discovered propionic and mesaconic acid, analysed numerous Styrian mineral water springs and pioneered the isolation of oleic acid. Work: Lehrbuch der pharmazeutischen Chemie, 1857.
