Gorup, Eugen Franz, Freiherr von Besánez


Gorup, Eugen Franz, Baron of Besánez, b. Graz (Styria), Jan. 15, 1817, d. Erlangen (Germany), Nov. 24, 1878, research chemist. After completing his studies in medicine, professor at the University of Erlangen from 1849; discovered the proteolytic enzymes in sprouting barley; intricate research of the chemical processes in bile, the effect of ferments in plants and the effect of ozone on organic substances; author of chemistry text books.
