Started his career in 1947, won international acclaim at the Salzburg Summer Festivals in 1950; toured the USA, Japan and Russia; numerous recordings; collects historic pianos; has published books on piano interpretations and the historical staging of concerts; various international awards; married to the musicologist Eva B.-S. (expert on operas and Haydn).
