Arzberger, Johann


Arzberger, Johann, b. Arzberg (Germany), April 10, 1778, d. Vienna, Dec. 28, 1835, engineer, taught mechanical engineering and mechanics at the Polytechnical Institute in Vienna; together with J. J. von Prechtl set up a gas production plant at the Institute; constructed a steam car in 1820; founder of the Vienna School of Mechanical Engineering; gave lectures free of charge on weekends and national holidays (forerunner of today´s institutionalized system of further education and training).
