Thamasch (also known as Damasch, Tamasch), Andreas, b. See im Paznauntal (Tirol), Nov. 24, 1639, d. Stams (Tyrol), Dec. 9, 1697, outstanding sculptor of the late 17th century, 1671 worked as journeyman for H. Schwanthaler in Ried im Innkreis (Upper Austria), to whose works his own bear stylistic similarities. Subsequently worked as a sculptor at the monastery in Stams and created, among other things, eight life-sized wooden statues of Tirolese sovereigns for the princes´ Crypt 1675-1681. Apart from this, the altar and figures of saints in the church of the monastery in Kaisheim in Swabia (parent monastery of Stams) are considered his principal works. Further works in Tirolese churches and in the Landesmuseum Tirol in Innsbruck.
