Mautstraßen

Toll Roads, particular section of a road for the use of which the law prescribes the payment of a certain amount of money (toll). The maintenance of toll roads helps to pursue different aims. First of all, tolls constitute a source of income. They serve to divert traffic to other roads, make people use public transport and thus also help to preserve and protect the environment. The following Autobahnen and expressways are subject to toll: Bosruck and Gleichalm tunnel (A9), Tauern-Scheitelstrecke (part of A 10), Karawanken tunnel towards Slovenia (A 11), all of the Brennerautobahn (A13), Arlbergstraßentunnel (S16); tolls may also levied by private landowners (for example owners of certain stretches of mountain roads) roads.
