Jelinek, CarlJelinek, Carl, b. Brno, Czech Republic (then Brünn), Oct. 23, 1822, d. Vienna, Oct. 19, 1876, meteorologist and astronomer, professor at the universities of Prague and Vienna. 1863-1876 head of the central office of meteorology and geodynamics in Vienna (Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik), founded the society for meteorology and its magazine, which he edited in co-operation with J. von Hann.
