Hopfenanbau


Hop Cultivation, started in Austria around 1200, discontinued in 1939 and taken up again after 1945 in some parts of the upper Innviertel and the Mühlviertel regions, in the Salzkammergut region, in the Wachau region, in the vicinity of Stockerau and in western Styria. 1993 217 hectares of hop fields, 115 hectares of which are located in the Mühlviertel region and 86 hectares in southern Styria. The average yield is 1.57 tons per hectare and covers 23% of the domestic requirement. The female plants are used in the brewing industry (Humulus lupulus).
