Amersfort (The Netherlands), Dec. 5, 1903, actor and singer. Trained as an actor and singer in Amsterdam; first minor speaking parts in the Netherlands and Belgium, later tenor in operettas, 1934 debut at the Volksoper in Vienna, from 1935 in Berlin; 1935 debut as film actor, numerous roles in UFA-Productions (famous film studio in Germany); also as an Austrian citizen many film and stage engagements (Theater in der Josefstadt, Vienna); especially parts in musical theatre (Honoré in the musical "Gigi", Count Danilo in "The Merry Widow" by F. Lehár); numerous awards. 1982 the Theater an der Wien created the "J. H. Ring" to be conferred to outstanding representatives in the field of light entertainment, he was the first to gain this award. 1984 honorary member of the Volksoper in Vienna.
