Wickhoff, Franz, b. Steyr (Upper Austria), May 7, 1853, d. Venice (Italy), April 6, 1909, art historian. 1880 custodian at the Museum of Arts and Industry; lectured at the University of Vienna from 1885 (Professor in 1891). By applying contemporary historical-critical methods to art history, significantly contributed to establishing this subject as an academic discipline. Founded the "Kunstgeschichtliche Anzeigen" in 1904.
