Wallmann, MargaretheWallmann, Margarethe, b. Vienna, June 22, 1904, d. Monaco, May 2, 1992. Dancer, choreographer and director. Embarked on her dancing career as a child. Choreographer at the Salzburg Festival 1931-1939, head of ballet at the Vienna State Opera and head of the Opera Ballet School 1934-1938. Fled to the USA and Argentina in 1939. After 1945 first woman director to make an international career (Italy, USA, London, Salzburg); worked with H. v. Karajan, with whom she had a excellent working relationship. Work: Les balcons du ciel, 1976 (autobiography).
