Umlauff Umlauf, Michael


Umlauff (Umlauf), Michael, b. Vienna, Aug. 9, 1781, d. Baden (Lower Austria), June 20, 1842. Composer, conductor, violinist. Son of Ignaz Umlauff. From around 1810 until 1825 and 1840 to 1842 concert master of the Imperial Theatres in Vienna. In 1814 he conducted the rearranged version of "Fidelio" by L. van Beethoven, participated in other Beethoven performances, conducting behind the deaf composer's back. One of Beethoven's coffin bearers.


Works: Singspiel: Der Grenadier, 1812. - Opera: Das Wirtshaus in Granada. - Piano, chamber and church music, 12 ballets (with G. Angiolini and F. Taglioni).
