Klagenfurt (Carinthia), July 20, 1809, d. Vienna, Nov. 1, 1877, narrative writer, poet, politician. Came from a noble Carinthian family, from 1835 in the civil service, 1848 member of the Carinthian Landtag, 1859 Court councillor at the Supreme Court, 1861 in the Reichsrat, 1870/1871 Minister of Justice in the Potocki cabinet, member of the Upper Chamber of the Reichsrat. Influenced by pre-Revolutionary German literature, T. clearly criticized social evils in his novels ("Die Industriellen", 2 vols., 1854; "Sünder und Toren", 2 vols., 1875).
