Rezzori, Gregor von eigentlich G. d´Arezzo


Rezzori, Gregor von (real name: G. d´Arezzo), b. Chernovtsy, Ukraine (then Czernowitz), May 13, 1914, d. Donnini (Italy), April 23, 1998, writer. Lived in Bucharest until 1938, then in Berlin, after 1945 radio editor in Hamburg; in Tuscany from 1960. Versatile author and cosmopolitan; initially wrote light novels, became famous for his collection of anecdotes "Maghrebinische Geschichten" (1953). His novel "Ein Hermelin in Tschernopol" (1958) conjures up the atmosphere of the Eastern border of the Habsburg monarchy. The period between the two World Wars is subject in both "Memoiren eines Antisemiten" (1979) and "Kurze Reise übern langen Weg" (1986).
