Reichsdeputationshauptschluss

Reichsdeputationshauptschluß, decision of the last special Deputation of the German Estates of February 25, 1803; compensated the secular princes for the cession of the left bank of the River Rhine to France (Treaty of Lunéville 1801) with ecclesiastical estates. In return for the county of Falkenstein, Austria was given the bishoprics of Trento and Bressanone, which were incorporated into the Tirol. It also received those estates of the archdiocese of Salzburg and of the dioceses of Passau, Regensburg and Freising that were located in Austrian lands. Ferdinand, brother of Emperor Franz II, was compensated for his loss of Tuscany with the archdiocese of Salzburg, Berchtesgaden and parts of the dioceses of Passau and Eichstätt as secular electorate.
