ReichenfelsReichenfels, Carinthia, market town in the district of Wolfsberg, alt. 809 m, pop. 2,073, area 87.16 km2, summer tourism (15,442 overnight stays in 1992), situated in the upper Lavanttal valley. - Kölzersauerbrunn well; machine manufacture, wood-working industry. - In the Middle Ages Reichenfels profited greatly from the mining of silver (reich = rich). Late-Gothic parish church (first documented mention 1285) with Romanesque core, Baroque extensions and interior; circular charnel house; fortress ruins; Romanesque-Gothic Oswaldkirche church in Sommerau; parish church of St. Peter im Lavanttal, oldest church (probably 931) in the upper Lavanttal valley, choir from the 14th century, 1492 late-Gothic extensions with impressive tower, Baroque alterations from the 17th century.
