Pottenstein


Pottenstein, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Baden, alt. 324 m, pop. 2,671, area 33.39 km2, situated on the River Triesting. - District court, district Chamber of Agriculture, road maintenance depot, Merkenstein teaching and research estate of the Vienna University of Veterinary Medicine, Lower Austrian Provincial Youth Home, "Lebenshilfe" association (engaged in life-counselling), Ferdinand Raimund multi-purpose hall; building trade, tool manufacture, wood processing, print shop, trade. - pilgrimage church of Maria Trost im Elend (Gothic remnants, rebuilt 1802-1809), late Romanesque ossuary (13th  century); house where Ferdinand Raimund died; "Urlauberkreuz" (pilgrims' cross; 16th  century).
