Pilz, Vincenz


Pilz, Vincenz, b. Varnsdorf, Czech Republic (then Warnsdorf), Nov. 14, 1816, d. Vienna, April 27, 1896, sculptor. Renowned representative of the Ringstraße era, especially talented in creating monuments and architectural sculptures; T. von Hansen often collaborated with him.


Works: Architectural sculptures in Vienna: Protestant School at Karlsplatz, Opera (roof statues, now in Philadelphia), parliament, stock exchange, Musikverein, Epstein palace. - Lower Austria: Statues of the apostles, Grafenegg castle. - Tombs and monuments.
