Pfarrwerfen, province of Salzburg, municipality in the district of St. Johann, alt. 553 m, pop. 2,040, area 38.15 km2, bi-seasonal tourist resort (72,375 overnight stays in 1992) on the River Salzach, in the southern foothills of Tennengebirge Mountains, in the northern Pongau area. - Engine fitting shop, timber mill. - Supposedly Roman postal waystation "Vocario", documented mention in 1074; called St. Cyriak until the 19th century. Late Gothic basilican parish church with late Gothic frescoes, glass paintings by A. Birkle (1952-1959) and 3 Gothic winged altarpieces; old Pongau farmhouses (some from the 16th /17th centuries).
