PettenbachPettenbach, Upper Austria, market town in the district of Kirchdorf an der Krems, alt. 486 m, pop. 4,297, area 54.66 km2, on the eastern slope of Almtal valley. - 2 small power plants (private); production of welding machines, wood processing, gravel plant, haulage companies, summer tourism. - Documented mention in 777; late Gothic parish church (1484), hall church with 3 naves and Baroque frescoes by M. Auhuber (1725), Madonna statue in side altar (1620); parish house from 1652. On Kaibling mountain, Peace Cross and fallen "1000-year-old" oak tree (9 m in circumference). Every year, on the first Sunday in November, custom of riding on horseback (Leonhardiritt) from Pettenbach to the former pilgrimage church at Heiligenleithen (built between 1431-1499).
