Nebesky-Wojkowitz, René von


Nebesky-Wojkowitz, René von, b. Velké Hoštice, Czech Republic (then Groß Hoschütz), June 29, 1923, d. Vienna, July 9, 1959, ethnologist and expert on Tibet; carried out fieldwork in the Indian Himalayas over many years, published fundamental works on the Tibetan religion and the mountain cult. Left an extensive collection of Tibetan objects and manuscripts to the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna.


Publications: Wo die Berge Götter sind, 1955; Oracles and Demons of Tibet, 1956.
