Most, Getränk

Most (must): 1) fruit most, pressed juice made of apples and pears, especially common in many parts of the Upper Austrian and Lower Austrian Alpine Fore-Land and a typical drink of these regions ("Mostviertel" region = district of Amstetten). In the 1960s lots of most fruit trees were cleared and replaced by dessert fruit trees. 2) grape most, juice pressed from grapes. - Both types are available in unfermented (sweet) or fermented form (alcoholic content of fruit most about 4 %).

Literature: K. Stückler, Der Most: Gärmost und Süßmost, 1994.
