Mercy, Claudius Florimund Count, b. Longwy (France), 1666, d. near Parma (Italy), June 29, 1734, killed in action, Field Marshal; adoptive father of Count Florimund Mercy d´Argenteau. From 1682 in Austrian service, distinguished himself in the War of the Spanish Succession, in the War of the Polish Succession and in the Turkish war. From 1720 Governor of Temesvár, which he successfully colonised on behalf of Prince Eugène.
