Machura, Lothar, b. Krnov, Czech Republic (then Jägerndorf), Dec. 13, 1909, d. Vienna, May 23, 1982, naturalist, adult educator. Head of the Department of Natural Sciences of the Lower Austria Provincial Museum, where he worked from 1935 to 1970. Co-founder of the Donau Museum at Orth an der Donau, of the Hunting Museum at Marchegg and the Alpine Garden on the Rax mountain. Advocated the creation of national parks, conservation, environmental and landscape protection, especially in connection with large-scale building projects.


Publications: Nationalparke in Österreich, 1959; Pilzesammeln - leicht gemacht, 1964; Rettet die Tormäuer, 1965; Die Donau und das Donaumuseum, 1966; Naturschutz und Landschaftspflege in Niederösterreich, 1970; Bäume an der Straße, 1970.
