Hellmayr, Carl EduardHellmayr, Carl Eduard, b. Vienna, Jan. 29, 1878, d. Orselina near Locarno (Switzerland), Feb. 24, 1944, ornithologist. From 1896 worked in museums in Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Paris, Tring (United Kingdom), 1922-1931 at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, where he completed the Catalogue of Birds (started by C. B. Cory, 9 vols.). From 1931 in Vienna again, 1938 emigrated to London and to Switzerland. Literature: NDB.
