Hebenstreit, FranzHebenstreit, Franz, b. Prague (Czech Republic), Nov. 26, 1747, d. Vienna (executed), Jan. 8, 1795, officer. Entered the army in 1768 after studying at the University of Prague, became officer and in 1791 moved to Vienna (deputy site commander). Joined the "Jacobin club", he designed a chariot with sickle-shaped armament, intended to send the designs to French and Polish rebels. Arrested on July 24, 1794, at a court martial sentenced to death and hanged outside the Schottentor city gate. Work: Homo hominibus, instructive poem with 542 lines. Literature: A. Körner, F.
