Geramb, Viktor, b. Deutschlandsberg (Styria), March 24, 1884, d. Graz (Styria), Jan. 8, 1958, ethnologist; founder of the Department of Ethnology at the Joanneum in 1913; was head of department until 1949, 1933-1934 foundation of the Association for the Preservation of Styria (Steirisches Heimatwerk); from 1931-1939 and 1949-1954 ethnology teacher at the University of Graz (founder of the first chair of ethnology in Austria after World War II). Forced to retire in 1939. Active at the St. Martin Institute for Adult Education near Graz (Steirisches Volksbildungwerk St. Martin b. Graz), and in the fatherland preservation movement ("Deutscher Schulverein Südmark").
