Georg von PeuerbachGeorg von Peuerbach, b. Peuerbach (Upper Austria), 1423, d. Vienna, 1461, astronomer. Humanist at the University of Vienna. Helped pave the way for the Copernican conception of the world, introduced the concept of the sine into trigonometry and created a theory of planets; calculated tables of celestial eclipses and invented a "quadratum geometricum" for measuring heights and distances.
