Gebauer, Franz XaverGebauer, Franz Xaver, b. Božków/Klodzko, Poland (Eckersdorf b. Glatz), 1784, d. Vienna, Dec. 13, 1822, composer, organist and conductor. Moved to Vienna in 1810, from 1816 head of the choir at St. Augustine church; founding member of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. Founded and conducted the "Concerts Spirituels" in the "Mehlgrube" in Neue Markt from 1819, which became an important part of Viennese musical life until their abolition in 1848 (including premières of Beethoven's 5th and 8th Symphonies).
